BNP Vice-chairman Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has been arrested.

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested the former minister from Matsha Bhaban area of the capital on Thursday noon.

“He was shown arrested in a case filed on Wednesday over charges of vandalism and assault on police,” confirmed SM Shamim, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ramna Zone).

Matiur Rahman, sub-inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, filed the case against 20-25 identified and 475 unidentified people.

Two policemen were injured in a clash between a group of BNP leaders and activists and police while they were staging a demonstration in front of the High Court seeking party chief Khaleda Zia’s release on Tuesday.

A number of vehicles were also vandalised during the clash
